100% of all donations go to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a fundraising campaign of the American Cancer Society. The money that is raised directly supports research into breast cancer, providing free information, and by giving support to people in order to help reduce the risk of breast cancer, and working to find methods early in order to prevent complicated treatments. We are proud that the money you help us to raise is helping to reduce pain and suffering in the world, thank you for your continued support.
We have designed our exhibits in a manner that matches an overarching theme, that better flows through the event, allowing for you to maximize your creativity by stylizing the internals without the hassle of worrying about impacting the neighboring exhibits, or having them impact you.
Our theme this year isn’t specifically tailored to any one franchise, but instead works to encompass everyone, in this regard while all of our region will be designed to fit our overarching theme, what you choose to display inside of your exhibit is up to you..
We found that in order for us to better facilitate the needs of our guests, and to help create a more cohesive design for our regions, it is better for us to internally allocate space for exhibits. This will help us to increase overall exposure for exhibits, as we can work to position exhibits along a clear route.
Whilst we will make every effort to make everyone comfortable we have limited ability to reposition you, In this instance you would be asked to contact Ben or Harley and we will make an impartial assessment of your request, but can not guarantee a reallocation.
This has been in an effort to help reduce lag across the event. Multi-Item vendors are typically a part of a network and when you have a lot of them in 1 region, it tends to slow down the servers. In an effort to alleviate this, we are allowing merchants to use an unlimited amount of ACS SciFi Expo vendors (up to package vendor limit), which includes options for both 100% donations, and 50% split donations. We felt that this was a necessary change in order to create a better overall experience for everyone.
Yes, as part of this year’s requirements we are asking for participation in one of three ways:
Quest Prize: Items will be given away freely as a part of the prizes given out during the finale of our interactive quest. Exhibitors will be given instructions on how to include their item(s) at a later date.
Gift Card Raffle: 100% Donation of a Gift Card (Minimum Value: L$250 – the Expo organizes.) This is a great option as it helps to bring shoppers to your store after the Expo has concluded. You are free to provide as many cards as you wish but they all must have a minimum value of L$250 each.
Exclusive Auction: Donation of an item made exclusively for the 2021 SciFI Expo. This item can never have been offered before in Second Life, and may never be sold, offered, or given away to any individual except the winner of that auction. This is not limited to just created items, but may also be a unique package or bundle that is put together and may only be offered once.
That’s easy! Find a donation vendor and donate, we do this as a passion of love for both the cause and for our community and making a difference is reward enough.

Terms & Conditions
1) General Rules
- All content at the SciFi Expo must conform to a moderate rating. Absolutely no adult content is permitted (this includes pictures, and demo’s – note that Skin Vendors may request permission from the Coordination team to portray tasteful nudity.) Sale of adult furniture is acceptable so long as demo’s are not rezzed and the vendor advertisements are not explicit in nature. If you are unsure whether or not you fall into any of these categories please contact one of our Coordinators for verification.
- Any form of political and/or election advertising or endorsements of any kind is not allowed. Any political advertising will be returned to the owner and can result in removal from the Expo. It is important for the Expo to be considered an impartial party free from any form of political bias. Opening up the system to any form of political advertisement could lead to potential disruption of the event, and/or add a drain on our administrative resources.
- Offensive or Derogatory advertisements/assets that are not permitted within the guidelines of Linden Lab Terms of Service, such as but not limited to hate speech, cyber bullying and other defamatory remarks, will be returned to the owner and can result in expulsion from the Expo.
- Any person(s) found to be actively engaging in griefing within Expo grounds will be ejected and may result in a ban, in this case you will have your objects returned.
- In the event an exhibit requires transfer of ownership the Expo permits one transfer to be reviewed by a member of the administration. If the administration approves the transfer the previous owner rescinds any rights to the exhibit.
- As an event that is setup to raise awareness and funding for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Second Life we do not offer refunds and after registration/sponsorship donations are paid, they are non-refundable; no exceptions are made.
- In the case of trolling, griefing, or disruption of an event, the Expo reserves the right to eject and/or ban the perpetrator(s) for the duration of the event or in cases which demand a higher punishment permanently.
- Neither the Strides Logo, nor the American Cancer Society Logo can be placed on any item for sale, it can however be used on items given away freely.
- Exhibitors grant the Expo a limited license to use any logos and product ads provided to promote their participation and/or sponsorship of the event in Second Life and on third-party websites, such as, but not limited to in-world promotional materials, event signboards, Expo related blogs, social media, and websites, Making Strides of SL / ACS websites, and other online sites and services.
- Exhibitors and/or sponsors agree that the Expo regions will be open to photographers and machinima producers and that photography and filming will not only be allowed but also encouraged before and during the event.
2) Rules Regarding Intellectual Property
- The SciFi Expo is an event that supports Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Second Life. This means that all of the rules that Making Strides and the Linden Lab Terms of Service must be adhered to at all times. Linden Lab has a clear policy on Intellectual Property available to the public.
- Any items that merchants bring to the SciFi Expo must legally be theirs to sell. All assets must either have been made by the merchant, and/or if created in part with help of another merchant or full permission resource must adhere to their respective EULA’s or a public domain asset.
- Any items that are sourced from a third party source must be in compliance with their EULA, the same goes for items created with the help of full permission resource kits from the Marketplace.
- If an asset is reported to the administration of the SciFi Expo, either having been stolen, ripped (copybotted), or otherwise an investigation will be launched into the validity of the claims. If an item is found to have been stolen or ripped we cannot in good conscience allow the item to remain at the event.
- Any items brought to the SciFi Expo must not infringe on anybody’s intellectual property. If the design is symbolic, or an artistic work belonging to someone else, recreating it does not make it yours. If you are unsure whether or not your item(s) falls under fair use please refer to Linden Lab’s Intellectual Property statement.
- In the event that a resident claims that an asset has been ripped (copybotted) we as an organization cannot act as a judge, and will recommend for you to file a DMCA. After a DMCA is filed, the Expo will make a decision whether or not the item can stay. Note: this only applies to resident vs. resident cases in which we cannot possibly know who is in the right or wrong. This does not apply to IP infringement or cases of ripping assets from games or third party sites as those are typically blatantly obvious.
- In the event of a situation that involves violation of either the Linden Lab Terms of Service or their Intellectual Property statement we are obligated to report it.
3) Exhibit Guidelines
- As you will be receiving a predesigned store to use, we are unable to offer customization for any of the stores.
- You will be able to add walls inside of your store to change the colors, and/or alter the existing layout to better suit your own style.
- We will not remove any walls, ceilings, change colors, or remove doors or windows, stores are provided AS IS.
- Please try to stay within the boundaries of your store, anything that extends outside the bounds of your store may be returned without prior notice.
- Land Impact limits must be strictly observed.
- We reserve the right to return items with or without your prior consent if you are over your land impact limit.
- ACS SciFi Expo donation vendors are not counted against land impact limit. (Up to the Land Impact Limit of your Package.)
- To decrease lag, and improve the overall experience for our guests we require that exhibitors minimize their script usage (NO highly scripted items, or temporary rezzers.) We also hold the preference that any texture uses the dimensions of 512×512, especially vendor images. It should be considered that any texture higher than 512×512 takes longer to load in and that of a 1024×1024 texture uses four times the amount of memory then that of a 512×512, which affects the load times and frame rates of our guests.
- The preference for texture dimensions are 512×512, especially in vendor images. The higher the texture resolution, the longer textures take to rez. It should be kept in mind that these high-res textures have a cumulative effect: each 1024×1024 texture uses four times the memory of a 512×512 texture, which affects load times and frame rates for our visitors.
- We do not allow the usage of any form of affiliate vendors and/or resold items (gachas).
4) Event Guidelines
- This is a American Cancer Society sponsored event. You will not be paid for your time since this is for charity.
- You are not allowed to rez a tip jar or accept tips. All donations must be made to an official SciFi Expo Making Strides kiosk.
- You can rez your own items. For prebuilt event areas, you have a limit of 100 prims. If you use your own stage you have a limit of 1000 prims. Please tell us if you need more, as we are happy to help you.
- Be sure you have enough room to accept an invite to the Expo Events group. This will grant permissions to rez and update the music stream. Please be sure to let us know if any other individuals assisting you also need an invite.
- Please be online and available 60 minutes before the start of your scheduled time. If you are not online and you do not check in (see below), we reserve the right to free up your spot for another entertainer.
- Either you or your host (if applicable) should check in on the Expo Events group at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled time. If you fail to check in, we reserve the right to free up your time slot to another entertainer.
- You can start rezzing 60 minutes before your show starts. If you need additional time, please work with the Expo Event Leadership to determine the best event location so you can rez without interfering with another event.
- Please coordinate with the current event host/performer in the region where your event is to be held (when applicable) for the hand-off of the stream. Do not change the stream without checking with them.
- You are free to have any group active you like during your performance. You do not need to wear a tag from the Expo group.
- As your event is about to end, please be aware of and promote the next event on the schedule in order to encourage guests to attend the next event.
- After your scheduled event ends, please pick up your own prims or ask a member of the Expo staff to assist with returning your items.
- If you are not scheduled for another event, please leave the Expo land group once your performance is done. If you have additional events scheduled during the Expo, you are welcome to remain in the group until after your last performance.
- The Expo Event Staff and Expo leadership reserves the right to observe any scheduled events to verify the quality of the performance is conducted at the highest possible level, is no higher than PG-13 by MPAA standards, and does not contain an excessive amount of vulgar or offensive language/material that can diminish or tarnish the Expo, Making Strides, or the American Cancer Society.
Booth Events (NEW for 2021):
- All booth events are required to follow the same event rules as outlined above.
- Entertainers wishing to have a booth event need to conduct the event at their group’s own booth space or get permission from the booth owner where they wish to perform.
- If you are not the booth owner or part of the group that occupies the booth space, please coordinate with the owner for Expo rez rights. The Expo Event Staff will not be able to assist at a group’s booth should an issue arise.
- Only the booth events added to the schedule are considered as official and can be advertised in the Expo group chats.
- Unscheduled booth events are allowed only if there is no scheduled event on the calendar for that time.
- Private booth events may be held for your group members so long as it is NOT shared within the Expo group chats and both you and your attendees do NOT attempt to lure guests away from attending official events on the calendar.
- Private booth events should not exceed 20 attendees in order to keep region performance at reasonable levels.
- Since the booths are not parceled, both private and unscheduled booth events will not have access to change the media stream. You will need to use the same stream from scheduled events. Alternative methods of playing music and video, including non-deeded music players and TVs, may be used.
- The Expo Events Leadership reserves the right to request that a private or unscheduled booth event is terminated if it violates these additional rules.
5) Merchant Requirements
- We ask that each merchant donate as many items as they can for sale in provided ACS SciFi Expo vendors. The MINIMUM requirement is to provide two (2) items: one (1) NEW and SEMI-EXCLUSIVE item, PLUS one (1) ADDITIONAL item of equal value. We do however encourage merchants to display for or more items in ACS SciFi Expo vendors, these can be a combination of new items, and/or historical favorites. Any item displayed in one of these vendors may choose to have 100% or 50% (split) of the proceeds going to the charity.
- Semi-Exclusive for the purpose of the SciFi Expo means that the items may not be sold elsewhere before or during the event (October 8 – October 18), but may be sold after the event has concluded.
- The official ACS SciFi Expo toolkit will be provided to merchants in a timely manner prior to our official setup dates.
- Please ensure that your two (2) exclusive donation items and any other items sold in Making Strides vendors are of the same current and high quality as items you sell in your own store vendors. Not only is the reputation of the Expo reflected in what you sell, but your store is as well. We reserve the right to ask for items to be replaced if we find them of significantly lower quality than items in your own store vendors.
6) Blogger Requirements
- We are asking each blogger to post at least 2 times, and on at least 2 different merchants over the course of the event’s 10 days. Please note that since the SciFi Expo is a charity event that benefits Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the American Cancer Society, some merchants might opt to have bloggers buy their donated items rather than give them for free as that money goes directly to the charity.
- All items that are provided through the blogger boxes are on display and may be tested on location. The simple rule we have is if you take something, you should probably blog about it, as our merchants expect any items that are taken to be blogged about. This is especially true for creators who have never worked with bloggers before.
To help ensure the best possible coverage, each blogger will be assigned to a specific region or to a specific group of merchants. These items should be blogged before or at the same time as (but not after) you may blog about items from other merchants/regions.
- All blog posts must have credited all items that are used, including the merchants store, and must include a link to the Expo website, as well as a SLurl to the event inworld.
7) Disclaimers, & Community Standards
- All persons, behavior, and objects at the SciFi Expo must conform to and follow the Linden Lab Terms of Service as well as the Second Life Community Standards.
- We reserve the right to deny any applications without explanation. You will be notified should your registration be denied.
- After registration/sponsorship donations are paid, they are non-refundable; no exceptions are made.
- By registering for the SciFi Expo, you agree that you have read, fully understand and accept all policies, terms & conditions, guideline’s and disclaimers governing the event.
- The SciFi Expo as an organization reserves the right to remove items and/or exhibits/exhibitors should any of the rules be broken. These situations are and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
